Happy Mommaversary to ME

May 10, 2007

dsc_4733.jpgEleven yeatrs ago the biggest journey of my life began. I became a real life Mom. And you know it is all about me.

Seriously, this guy has taught me more things than I ever thought imaginable. Because of him I see value in the things I do and the choices I make. I love my husband more and am more commited to loving my husband, because Taylor entered our lives.

He is one of my best friends and he never ceases to amaze me by his sensitivity, his outlook on life and the maturity in MOST of his decisions.

I luvs ya my boy and I thank you for loving me and accepting me and my craziness.

Finally

January 24, 2007

After about 7 months of no laptop, I told my husband that all I wanted for Christmas was for it to be fixed. He took into a place that was recomended to him by someone at work. They held it hostage for about a month or more.

They installed a new hard drive, I don’t think the Fn buttons work but I can hopefully figure that one out. They said the little rubber legs had fallen off the bottom (well two of them had) so the computer overheated and fried the hard drive. All that because of two rubber legs. I lost all of our Disney pictures because of two little pieces of rubber.

But I finally have my computer back. Now to get as much back on it as I can.

Baby Watch 2007 Updated

January 22, 2007

So finally some news.

Lynn called me this morning and left a message to say that they are home and she has updated her blog. How great is that? Welcome to the World Brandon Scott.

And news spread fast once the grrrl had a grrrl. Daddy has some great pics of EmmaLee and her new family.

And our friends up in Yellowknife who are fairly new parents themselves have spread the word about her new nephew.

Funny thing is that all three of these new lives arrived on the same day. Thursday was a great Birth Day.

And look what I just saw now

Happy Happy Birth Day to four new families.

Baby Watch 2007

January 18, 2007

So it is the start of the New Year. And with that there is a whole lotta babies going on.

First I have been waiting to here for days from this one. I mean she must have had that little one by now hasn’t she? Anyone out there in the know please let me know.

Then I read this today about the grrrl.

And now I am anxiously watching these “Northerners”

Hoping everyone has a safe delivery and that soon each of you will be holding those little babes in your arms.

Thankfully we have a few months before we hear anything like this from these guys

Now that Christmas Is Over

January 7, 2007

WOW! It is hard to believe that the Season is almost over and the kids will be heading back to school in a couple more sleeps. We are already almost a full week into 2007 and it is true that time really does not stop for anyone.

Well this may be long over due but I thought I would post it anyway…

High-Lites of the Holiday
- Noah and Mykayla performing publicly for the first time on their own. Solo!
- Being able to attend one School Christmas Concert and see all of our kids take part in their own way. This has never been done before because Taylor has always attended a different school from the other two.
- Taking part in the Christmas Eve Service at our church.
- Spending Christmas Eve with my cousin and his family. Not being able to spend these times with him growing up made this a really special time of feeling a part of a family on Christmas Eve.
- Spending Christmas Eve just the 5 of us reading the Christmas Story from the Bible and praying together.
- Our traditional Belgium Waffle Breakfast
- Having my sister and her husband and 5 kids here on Christmas Day
- Hosting our first ever Christmas Dinner in our new home. Complete with my parents and sister and 5 children.
- Seeing the kids be so thankful and excited over every gift no matter how large or small.
- Having my sister Joan and her husband Dean show up at our place with their two adorable kids on the 28 for a birthday supper.
- Having my sister Kristina and her son Cabot come for supper on the 28.
- Knowing that the evening would be one for all of our children to remember with their cousins.
- Getting pictures of all four girls with our mom. The first time in over 12 years we were all together and didn’t even get into an argument.
- Mykayla got to spend a day at a seminar figure skating with Jeffrey Buttle. She also got her picture taken with him and his autograph.
- After the family left – much rest and relaxation
- Spending New Year’s Eve celebrating with my kids and my folks
- Having Trevor come in to have birthday cake on the evening of the 1st.
- Noah’s team winning their game on the 2nd
- Taylor got to go spend the day quadding with his cousins in Shellbrook.
- Taylor finally won a game! The beat St. Louis 6-1 on Thursday. A great way for them to start the New Year. He got the “Hardest Worker Award” He has a hard hat to sign his name on and a pair of fluorescent orange work boots that the make them wear out of the dressing room. He wore them with pride. He will return it tomorrow for someone else to use.
- Celebrating my mom’s 65th birthday with her today. Her dear friend Irene threw her a surprise party at their house. It was a wonderful time with just the right amount of people.

And Now the Low-Lites
~ Getting sick right before Christmas and not really feeling good until after Christmas.
~ The kids waking up at 4am on Christmas Morning and then Trevor waking me up at 6am and getting into an argument because the kids had fallen back to sleep and I wanted to sleep longer as well.
~ My sister Kristina not wanting to celebrate Christmas Day with the rest of the family.
~ Trevor having to go back to work on the 26 and being really anxious to get back there.
~ Having to say good-bye to my sisters and their families much too soon.
~ Fighting with my mother.
~ Spending New Year’s without my husband and my friends back in Yellowknife.
~ Having my mom’s birthday and having three of her oldest friends unable to attend.

So Here Is What I Know

January 4, 2007

My mom is going for a catscan next week. Perhaps it will give her/us more information about what is going on with her. I think she is really concerned about what they might find. If you know her… don’t tell her I told you. She might be a little sensitive.

Oh and also if you know my mom you may or may not know that Saturday is her 65th birthday and apparently there is a surprise party happening for her at her friends house. If you need more info let me know.

Oh and don’t tell her I told you about that either cuz it is supposed to be a SURPRISE. (and no she doesn’t read this stuff, she doesn’t even know how to work a computer other than to play Solitaire)

The New Year’s Eve That Wasn’t

January 1, 2007

So it is my birthday. And after 12 years Trevor has managed to wear me down and got things his way. It has been an ongoing discussion about New year’s in this family. When I was little my parents always had family and friends over and we ate and played games and then rang in the New Year. They always sang Happy Birthday after Auld Lang Syne and I opened my present from my folks then. On New Years Day my mom would always have a turkey dinner and have her best friend’s family over. Their daughter was my best friend and the grandma was like a grandmother to me too.

As I became a teenager, I always went to Youth Group for their annual ALL NIGHTER. When those stopped I celebrated with my friends either at my house or at someone elses. Probably the best New Years Eve I ever spent was the one where my friend and I bought tickets to go to The Wild Pony. It was a country bar we hung out at a few times a week while I was living in Vancouver. I was young and had no responsibilities and everyone there was celebrating no responsibilities as well.

Once Trev and I got married New Year’s became the one thing we could never agree on. I have tried to explain to him how much I enjoyed celebrating New Years Eve with friends and family because it was always such a special time for me. Our first New Year’s I can’t even remember except that we were very broke because we had just gotten married and just celebrated our first Christmas. Trev made me dinner and gave me a book on card game rules. It was very sweet because it was so simple and logical. He thought that way we could learn to play some card games together and enjoy each other’s company which we did.

Over the years we have sort of alternated between taking part in a big bash either in our home or at a friends house. One year we were at Trevor’s mom and dads and Taylor was a year and a half. Trev’s dad was working so his mom didn’t want to do anything at all. Trev asked her to drive into town and go for dinner but she refused. We didn’t feel comfortable leaving her behind so we spent New Year’s Eve going to bed early. The next day we drove to Prince George to see his sister and he had promised a nice dinner out with them. He even promised Seafood since it is my favourite. When we got there he decided with his sister and her boyfriend that they would all enjoy Chinese (one of my least favourites) so that is where we went for dinner that night.

Some great New Year’s Eves in our married life had to be the one year we had a party at my friends house. Trev and I left for a bit to go say Happy New Years to some of our YK family and when we came back everyone had decorated the house with birthday decorations. I was about to turn 31 so they told me they were celebrating the last day of me being 30. It was very sweet. The first year we were in our new house we had a huge last minute bash with about 30 kids and 30 adults attending. It was great, complete with Karoake, Settlers of Catan and a great view of some fireworks. The next year we had a quiet elegant celebration with some very close friends and Trev managed to have steak and lobster ready for a classy midnight supper.

This year, I teased Trev that he finally got his wish. He didn’t have to celebrate New Year’s. He was working and did not want to come in last night opting instead to come in tonight (His argument always being that my birthday is the 1st not the 31st) I also was in no mood to party and if it has not been for the kids I would likely have been happy going to bed early in a pouty depressed mood. Instead we went to the folks and the kids alternated between watching Curious George and Cars and going downstairs to play on the PS2. As midnight got closer Taylor and I engaged in a game of Crib Wars and then we handed out the Party Poppers and rang in the New Year by popping confetti all over Mom and Dad’s front deck.

We came home just before 1am and I was thankful to have missed the phone call from my two sisters who were celebrating together in Calgary. I wished that they had stayed so we could have all celebrated together here. The kids were already in PJs and headed to bed as did I. I was delightfully awakened at 3:15 by Mykayla with vomit all over her and the floor. After I cleaned everything up my stomach was doing the flip flops so I perched on the lazy boys in the family room and watched some TV before falling back asleep.

Today so far has been spent in bed lying around watching TV and enjoying the 2 egg and toast breakfast my firstborn made for me. I think now I will go downstairs and chase teh kids to clean their rooms while I clean the main floor that hasn’t been cleaned since my sister left 2 days ago. A dinner of leftovers and cake is on the menu at the folks place tonight so I am not going to worry about cooking.

I hope all of you enjoyed your New Year’s Eve and that blessings flow your way in 2007.

Sunday December Third

December 7, 2006

Sunday. Yes it was days ago. It has been a busy week. It is done now. We have drum lessons afterschool today and then nothing all weekend except a hockey game in Shellbrook which should be a nice drive out.

Sunday was Mykayla’s 8th birthday. Our first big event as a family here in PA. We slept in and the boys gave Myk her present from them. They didn’t want to go to church but I said that we needed to go for 11 because I had to work in the nursery. We arrived at about 10:30 and then I checked the board and I was scheduled to work at 10. Oops. So we left after church and went to Taylor’s hockey game. They lost horribly and young Mr. Herd got a stern warning about what I would do with his stick if he banged it again. Then we went home to decorate the birthday cake and practice for the afternoon Family Advent Service.

We were asked the week before if there was anything we would like to do for the service. I asked the kids and Myk said she would like to sing and Noah said he would like to read. Mykayla decided on Silent Night and I found a poem called Advent Beauty for Noah. We found some piano music for Myk to sing to.

Noah reading Advent Beauty by John Piper. Before Noah went up to read his poem , Taylor said to him, “Noah, if you are nervous just picture everyone in their underwear.”

Noah gave him a strange look like he was suggesting something obscene.

After he was finished and we were getting ready to leave, Taylor asked him, “Noah, did you picture everyone in their underwear?”

Noah’s response, with a very smug look on his face, “Nope, I pictured them naked.”

I see a future as a stand up comedian.Mykayla sang Silent Night. She lost her timing slightly near the end but by the end of the song she had regained it.

She did great for her first time and very little practice.

We are so proud of her for being so brave, getting up there and doing what she loves to do. They are already practicing for next year. I think the three of them may do a rendition of Little Drummer Boy with Taylor playing the drum.
Mykayla completely decorated her own cake this year. She helped bake it as well. She is growing up so fast.We were blessed to meet the Oleksyns when we first moved here. Marilyn has two children Austin and Bailey. They have just moved back from Toronto as Marilyn grew up here. Austin plays hockey with Taylor and Bailey skates with Myk. As two single moms (well half the time for me) it has been great to have this friendship where we can get together at the arenas and trade off children and no matter where we are our kids have each other to play with. The Oleksyns joined us for cake that evening and Bailey is seated next to Mykayla as she blows out her candle.

The First Kiss

July 5, 2006

July 3, 1994

So the wedding ended in the wee hours of the morning. There was a lot of dancing and loud music. Just after midnight, a cake came out to wish Trevor a Happy Birthday. It was his 25th birthday and Judy had arranged for him to be presented with a green Golf Cake.

After the wedding the bride and groom left and the guests dispersed. Some of the younger guests had agreed to meet at Ken and Judy’s to keep the party going. Their roommate would be there so we wouldn’t be completely unsupervised. Although Wayne’s supervisory skills were questionable.

Trevor drove me home so I could change. I went upstairs to my room while Trevor waited in the living room. I changed into red shorts and a red and white striped shirt. I bounded down the stairs and entered the living room. As I walked into the room Trevor rose immediately from the couch and met me. He put his arms around my waist and kissed me. He caught me off guard but I was thrilled to be kissing him because you know he is kinda cute.

I have pretty much loved kissing him ever since.

In the two weeks Trevor was in Canada we saw each other as much as we could and by the time he left we knew that this was something we wanted. We talked about plans for me to join him in New Mexico as soon as we could make it work. By August I took a trip down there and we decided on a wedding date and picked out a ring. Less than 5 months after we met we were married. 12 years after that first kiss I can honestly say it has only gotten better.

Happy Birthday Honey. I love you!!
